Outrageous characters galore in Uncle Fred in Springtime, a hilarious story set in the beautiful Blandings Castle. The pig-loving, absent-minded Lord Emsworth, his stern sister, Lady Constance, and his equally muddle-headed older son, Lord Bosham are joined by the easily irritable, egg-throwing Duke of Dunstable, the “efficient” Rupert Baxter who makes an appearance as the duke’s secretary, and of course, Earl of Ickenham, Frederick Twistleton (Uncle Fred) in this perfect situational comedy.

Wodehouse is at his best, as Uncle Fred, impersonating the well renowned psychiatrist, Sir Roderick Glossop, steps in to ease the worries of Lord Emsworth over his beloved pig, Empress of Blandings, Polly Pott over her engagement with Ricky, and his nephew, Pongo Twistleton’s financial woes.

Thus far, only Code of the Woosters by Plum had scored the coveted 5 stars from me. I would be remiss in not placing Uncle Fred in Springtime in the same level as that atrociously funny story.
