The Adventures of Sally

In The Adventures of Sally, Wodehouse departs from his usual formula, creates a charming and strong female lead in Sally Nicholas. Every interaction Sally, the newly rich American girl with a heart of gold, has with that affable and goofy Englishman, Ginger, is delightful, especially their very first one, in the 2nd chapter (Enter Ginger). When Sally runs away from it all, the story gets somewhat dragging, even depressing – a new experience for me in a Wodehouse novel. Nevertheless, Wodehouse manages to ensure that Sally, pursued by three suitors, makes the right call, so that they could all live happily ever after.
