Eighteen-Carat Kid and Other Stories is a 1980 U.S. publication of two novellas – the title story & William Tell Told Again, and two short stories – The Wire-Pullers & The Prize Poem. This collection was edited and introduced by David Jansen.

Eighteen-Carat Kid is the story of Ogden Ford, son of the American millionaire Elmer Ford, who is shipped to Mr. Arnold Abney’s boarding school, Sanstead House, in England. Ogden is a favorite kidnapping target for gun-toting and accident-prone Buck Macginnis, and the smooth-talking Sam Fisher. Mr. Burns, Sanstead House’s assistant master tries to shield Ogden from harm, and in the process, finds himself in the midst of many adventures. This is a funny school story that Wodehouse expanded with romance and love-interest added in The Little Nugget.

William Tell Told Again is the only children’s story Wodehouse wrote. While his characteristic humor is understated, William Tell’s story is laced with satire and vivid descriptions of Austrian occupation of Switzerland. The original publication of this novella had pictorial illustrations to appeal to the young readers.

The Wire-Pullers, a cricket story and The Prize Poem, a brilliant school story, both please the reader with a lovely twist in the end.
