The fifth Earl of Ickenham, who makes it his business to spread sweetness and light in the lives of others, brings together not one, not two, not three but four couples to the altar in Cocktail Time. This may yet be a record in a Wodehouse novel, which is set in motion by Lord Ickenham knocking off the hat of the barrister Bastable with a Brazil nut. A host of characters assemble in Dovetail Hammer with the sole purpose of laying hands on the single evidence as to the author of the novel Cocktail Time which Hollywood with its deep purse is interested in. Not one of Plum’s best, but still worth a read for the chuckles.
