I picked this book up on a whim. The subject matter intrigued me.

Nnenna Maloney, half white and half black, raised by her English mother in the absence of her Nigerian father, is on a journey of self-discovery. Sadly, with poorly fleshed out characters, this is a disappointing book. Of the “private joys” alluded to in the title, I found nothing of that nature in Nnenna’s life. And the book was more about Nnenna’s “mum” Joanie than about her.

While this is not particularly relevant to the story, I’d have expected the author to do a bit of research into Indian culture before choosing to name characters “Rahul and Anika Aslam”. Seriously?
