The Heart of the Goof is the 2nd collection of golf stories, originally published in 1926 by Herbert Jenkins. They are all, as usual, narrated by the Oldest member, in every instance, to a hapless listener.

Rodney Spelvin, William Bates & Jane Packard feature in three funny stories; the title story, Chester Forgets Himself & The Awakening of Rollo Podmarsh belong in the 5-star fun category.

None of the nine stories were new to me, having read them in one of Wodehouse’s short story collections earlier – either in Fore!, Nothing Serious, A Few Quick Ones, or Lord Emsworth and Others.

A delightful re-read for me. A positively charming way to get into Wodehouse’s world of golf stories for those who are on the sidelines, wondering whether to venture beyond the world of Jeeves-Wooster or the Blandings Castle.
